No Evidence of Obama Slur/Threat at Palin Rally

with one comment

Investigators with the Secret Service say that there is no evidence that anyone shouted ‘kill him,’ in reference to Barack Obama, at a recent McCain-Palin rally.

U.S. Secret Service agents say that there is no evidence to support one reporter’s claim that any attendee at a McCain-Palin rally on Tuesday in Scranton, Pennsylvania shouted ‘kill him’ when Barack Obama’s name came up.

According to an October 15, 2008 article by the Andrew M. Seder that appeared in the TimesLeader.com website, which serves Northeastern Pennsylvania, the head of the Secret Service field office in Scranton says that there no evidence of this widely-reported verbal attack.

Scranton Times-Tribune Reporter (and Obama supporter) David Singleton originally reported the alleged verbal outburst on the newspaper’s website on Tuesday after he claimed to hear the remark at a McCain-Palin rally earlier in the day.

The paper printed the uncorroborated slur in their Wednesday edition and networks such as ABC and MSNBC as well as the Associated Press and the Washington Monthly repeated the allegation, according to the article by Seder, doing absolutely no fact checking of their own, of course.

The Times Leader.com article also indicated that Secret Service Agent Bill Slavoski interviewed Singleton, as well as 20 people who were at the rally, and no one but Singleton could corroborate the story. Slavoski, according to the article, said that Singleton was unable to provide a description of the man who allegedly made the remark.

However, Singleton and his newspaper are sticking to their story, according to the Seder article, even though there were thousands of people at the rally and Singleton was the only one who heard the threatening remark. http://tinyurl.com/3n9m8k
